About this design

This design was first made about 1991 but was never listed on the standard retail order form. Ron Wheeler of Artius Glass reports he has a copy of this design drawn by hand on an archive price list for that year. Apparently it was to be made for the German market in the main as that price list shows it listed in Deutschmarks only.

The later version produced in 2008-2009 was made for a contract secured by Ron to supply the cruise liner 'Eclipse'. Very few were made. An example of this later version is known signed by Timothy Harris and dated 2012.

Examples

There are several variants of the Sun & Moon bag vase, of which three have been seen. This design was never available as a standard range and examples are very rare today.

Sun and Moon vase, 28 cm high, back side

Sun & Moon vase back side. Notice there is no 'moon' in gold leaf, but clearly this is a Sun & Moon vase, similar to the first example above. Image courtesy of Lynne Butt.

Sun and Moon vase, 28 cm high, base

Base of the Sun & Moon vase. Amazingly, the base is not signed, given that this is a special item, made in very few numbers. Image courtesy of Lynne Butt.

Variant 3

Sun and Moon vase, 11.25 inches high, 8.25 inches wide, 3.5 inches deep

Sun & Moon vase, 11.25 inches high, 8.25 inches wide, 3.5 inches deep, with the sun disk on one side and moon crescent on the other side. Signed “Michael Harris IOW England 1994” on the base. In this variant there is very little combing; there is a little just below the crescent moon.
